Baby #4's Quilt

Did I ever show you the finished quilt I made for baby #4.  Baby #3, wanted to be my model.  I'm sure these pictures would have looked better if I would have cropped.

The front:

Three green stripes for three boys.

The back:  There are four stripes because he is the fourth kid.  And three green circles because he is the third boy.

Door Hangers

My 7 and 5 year old really love things on their bedroom door, to indicate it is their room. When we moved around bedroom roommates, the toddler is now with the 5 year old, because the baby will be with the 8 year old.  (His birthday is coming, I guess both of their birthdays.)  I made new door hangers, but mostly because the old ones were wooden and made too much noise, making me crazy.  

 The embroidery isn't original designs, I saw them on pinterest, which probably came from etsy. They were on hoops not quilt squares though.  There is something about me in my third trimester that is drawn to making children's bedroom decor from unfinished quilt squares.  (Check out a year and half ago. Here and here.)

I love them, because they are silent, and each kid has their own.  But overall I ended up hating this project.  I had to will myself to finish.  I'm having the hardest time naming this baby, so his square doesn't have a name. 

Speaking of names, last night my oldest suggested Elvis Lee.  Kind of catchy actually, but I'm not using it.

Quilt for Baby 4

Over the week of Christmas, I pieced together the quilt for my fourth baby.  This ended up a very busy quilt, but I still like it.  I was going to incorporate white fabric, but then I bought way too much green and blue, so I decided not. Here is the front

 And now the back.  My back fabric was too short, so I added the blue for the length.

I'm quite pleased with how they turned out.  My baby boy comes in exactly a month.  Who knows if it will be quilted in time....
Now I need to make some burp clothes to match.

Long Forgotten

Back when my oldest was two I pieced together, a small quilt.  I turned it over to my mom to quilt, and I long since had forgotten about it. She recently found it and had her friend machine quilt it. The quilting is really beautiful. 

 It was good to see this long forgotten quilt, I was frustrated that I have made no progress in quilting over the years.  Turns out I did!  I would have never pieced these squares in this order if I made this quilt this year.  At first my order annoyed me, but then I realized life is about making progress and the order is what is is.  On a positive note, I love how even my sewing is, those corners look perfect!

Matching

With something as amazing as my baby quilt, I decided I need more fabulousness.  So made some matching burp cloths to go with the quilt, with left over material.  I had more material to make more, but then I couldn't figure out why I would need more than three. They are chenille on the back.  

Guess What My Mom Brought?

My mom was out visiting in the beginning of the month and you'll never guess what she brought?!
My baby quilt, I had mailed it to her to have her friend quilt it.

 Its beautiful huh?  I don't mind saying so myself.  Here is a close up.

 Here is the back.  Oh I love it.  Its a shame it will be too hot to use when my baby first comes.

Back

I made a back for my baby quilt.  I didn't want just a plain piece of white material.  

 Close up now, I got the circle idea from my this wonky baby quilt, but I did my circles differently then they did.

Now my mother has the quilt, she is quilting it together for me thankfully!

Look What I Did

I finished the top to the baby quilt. The colors are blue, yellow, green and white.

Some of the material came from my sister in law Alisa.  I got the pattern from this book.
Just for the record I have 13 weeks left, probably actually 14!  Ahh! But I'm getting super uncomfortable, so I'm sure I'll be grateful as the weeks disappear.

Baby Quilt Preview

I'm making a baby quilt aren't you excited?

I'm using my daughter's baby quilt as measurement.  I figured the easiest way to measure was to lay it on top.

My mother made my daughter's baby quilt, and my sister in law made J's baby quilt (the one without a girl on it).. I'm pretty lucky that my sister in law likes her brother (my husband) so much, because back in the days of number one, I had no idea I even cared about baby quilts.  But now I do. Although maybe my sister in law converted me, after giving us the quilt.
Part of me is all giddy that I'm making my baby a quilt, but I'm not sure why, its not my first baby quilt.  I made one for my sister.

More Mini Quilts

My daughter was pretty jealous she didn't get a mini quilt.  So I let her pick out the material out of my stores, and she was pretty excited about the light pink the corners so then I picked the material around the pink. Part of the reason I used the black polka dot on my daughter's quilt was she was pretty excited about the pink and black home design items at hobby lobby.  

 Funny how the quilts ended up opposite.  The matching four squares is the light in the boy quilt and dark in the girl quilt.  The only think I know about quilting my mom taught me-- light dark.  You have to put a light square next to a dark square and a dark square next to a light square.  She taught me a lot of other things, but it falls on deaf ears because I can't cut straight and quilting is a lost art with out straight lines.

 Look how happy my child is... homemade sewing means love according to my kids.

Christmas Craft

I only have one christmas craft this year. It is left over from years past, two rental housings ago. I finally finished it with the help of my mom. My Christmas Wall Quilt, it turned out way larger than I was originally planned, but I hate to waste material so this is how large it ended up.

Finished, sort of

After almost three years, I have finished the applique of my christmas craft #???-- my christmas wall quilt.

I used fusible web adhesive (wonder-under) to glue all the letters and shapes on, and then blanket stitched them on the material. It was trickier than it sounds, because the green background is glossy and sparkly so the fusible adhesive didn't really stick, so as I was sewing one letter on, the next one would start to peal up.

But luckily the quilt is almost done, my fingers have now built up nice callouses for hand stitching.

Needing a second opinion.

I'm in the process of making a quilt out of cords, and pajama pants. I need a second opinion.
Should I make the blanket, 4x7 basically really skinny.

Should I make it 5x5, which basically makes it an oversized baby blanket

Or should I make it 5x6, which would make it a good size blanket for a growing 2 year old.

But I'm short two blocks, the two pairs of pants ran out of material. But I'm planning on putting yellow cord border around the blocks before the binding, I could add two yellow blocks in the blanket. I don't know what to do please give me advice. Leave a comment, on what way looks the best. Or if you are a reader who doesn't leave comments email me. Something, I need advice.

My sister recently, as in, on Friday had her first born.
A few months ago I experimented with quilting again. I made her this quilt.
Turned out really good I think, much better than the first quilt I ever made in my life. Its great because its clearly girly, hence holly hobby in the middle, but it doesn't have pink in it, I thought my sister would appreciate the lack of pink.
As you can tell it is a kid tested, kid approved quilt.
